Does the Robot actually make better coffee?
2 years ago, I had a Rancilio Silvia PID mods and I bought the Robot to play the weekend with pressure/flow profiling. Right at the start my shots were better and always drinkable compared to the Silvia. I sold the Silvia fews week after because she was no more attractive. Lever are more forgiving,

What espresso machine did you start on, and would you recommend it to a beginner today?
Old Rancilio Silvia. Tough question really. It was a good test of “do you really want to make espresso at home?” but it needed several pieces replaced in short order and I would think there are more beginner friendly machines on the market.

Stock Portafilter
I just started using a Silvia a week ago and ran into the same thing. The stock baskets are sloped, so you can only tamp so deep, not deep enough even for a .8mm screen. I have an ICM competition basket that fits the Rancilio bottomless portafilter. It has straight sides and can get the screens in o

Bluetooth Scale - to buy or not to buy

Gaggimate help
Yes!! I bought a Silvia back in 2003/4. This was pre YouTube and I quickly tired of the temp surfing. I moved to Chemex and Aeropress. Miss Silvia languished and I sold her after a few years. I recently dove back into espresso with a Flair press and hand grinder, then quickly bought another Rancilio

Balance of me vs spouse needs [$500-$1500]
500-1500 is a tough price range. You can either get a very nice consumer set up such as a Bambino plus and save 1000$ or you can get a very entry lever prosumer machine such as a Rancilio Silvia with PID. Unfortunately almost all of the Prosumer machines in that price range are single boiler and are

Need some quick advice if this is all worth it? [$6,000]
Well it's all preference really, but between using a Rancilio Silvia which already slows me down, pulling a scale out for weighing the beans, pulling the beans out to put them in a cup for weighing, pouring them into a single dose grinder, having issues with motor stalling, static and retention beca
