It's been an expensive 6 months since leaving Kindle

Growing up in school I hated reading. None of the required reading books ever did anything for me, so I rarely actually read them. But that all changed in 2011 when I got a Kindle Keyboard and found out I could read books that I actually liked. It's been wondering and I've been singing the praises o...

Mea culpa of a skeptic

I tried KOReader once without much success. Found it too complex to adapt when installing it on my old Kobo Auro One, even if I really wanted the dark mode (KA1 didn't have it natively). Then I bought a PocketBook InkPad 4, which I love, except for the "meh" stats and in reader mode info (only indic...

Smartphone-less set-up at work

PocketBook InkPad Color 3. Colors aren't vibrant, they look like printed on a newspaper, but it allows me to read comics on the go and that's enough for me. It weights more than other ereaders, tho, so it's really unpleasant to have it fall on one's face when reading in bed.

Trying to decide on upgrade from a dying Kobo Clara HD

My first e-reader is a Kobo Clara HD (6 inch, 300 ppi) that I got second hand for 20 bucks last year. It's served me well but the battery is pretty much toast; it completely dies once it reaches around 85% and then takes over a day to recharge and goes through a factory reset, so I basically have to...

New e-reader recs, best for side loading

Ereaders don't get released every year like phones, so new is very relative. 6'' Kobo Clara BW (or 6'' PocketBook Verse Pro if you are willing to accept a lower contrast), 7'' PocketBook Era, 8'' PocketBook InkPad 4 or 8'' Kobo Sage are I would say your options if you want a non-Android black & whit...

If you are looking for an eReader this Christmas, there is one from Europe - Pocketbook/Vivlio

I bought a PocketBook InkPad Color 3 a year ago and wanted to love it but it's a frustrating device. It is so insanely slow. Navigating menus to do anything other than turn pages in a book made me mad. Especially frustrating because other manufacturers manage to make their eReaders snappy. I switche...

How slow is a PB?

Thousands and thousands of people don't have problems with their PocketBooks. What you are reading are posts from singular people who complain that PocketBooks are not as snappy as their phones. But I also have to tell you that they are not the fastest devices out there, I e.g. have also a Kobo Clar...

Spoilt for choice: PocketBook Verse Pro (BW) vs PocketBook Era (BW)

I never touched a Kindle and won't likely ever, so I can't tell you anything objectively comparison-wise. I have an InkPad 4 (same screen as the Era, so Carta 1200 and a flush glass front) and had a PocketBook Verse (Carta 1000; while the standard Verse only has 212ppi, the Pro also has 300ppi like ...

PocketBook releases "new" device: PocketBook Verse Light

I find it much less interesting than the Verse (or the Pro). Besides what was already mentioned by the OP, it only displays 212 dpi and has less features for loading ebooks (lacks, apparently, the PocketBook Cloud, Dropbox, Send-to-PocketBook). Edit: I was wrong, since it does have the cloud and dro...

Kobo Clara BW vs Pocketbook Verse Pro

I did the same. After buying a PocketBook InkPad 4 I enjoy it so much, I bought a Verse Pro Color. Using them with KOReader made it even more enjoyable (after the learning curve). PS. I did my own sleep screens.
