How does this look for a beginer setup

I would recommend the petzl AM’D instead of the Freino. And just a personal preference, maybe a grigi instead of the Neox since they are more common.

Bit peeved about the neox. I bought it because I have a thicker rope and wondered if it'd really work smoother than a gri-gri. It was amazing for a while, but now dirt has collected in the pulley and it is absolutrly useless. I'm back to using the gri-gri with the same rope. I understand that Petzl

Are you trying to spend as much money as you need to? Or are you trying to save money? What is your motivation? I would skip the Neox and ATC guide. Just get an ATC Pilot or Mammut Smart. What would be the perfect belay device for you?

Yeah I've heard those complaints too. I think the slack issue petzl tried to solve with the neox, but definitely still far from perfect and is actually a little bit more unreliable than the grigri.

Neox is not an upgrade. I'd personally consider it a downgrade. IMHO, Petzl was trying to make more sales and released something new that wasn't really needed.

First Belaying Device

Guide mode stuff with the Neox is terrible/unadvised. The spinning wheel is crap and goes to shit in sand. Kind of a shit device all around to be honest. Petzl stuff is usually so dang good, they really made a stinker with the Neox. Glad Edelrid addressed the low MBS issue with the Pinch. If I didn’t
