I'm 5ft7 and use a Patagonia Refugio 30L and it is extremely comfortable to carry. The latest model has bungee cords on the front that could easily be removed to make it look less casual. It's not a clamshell but has a reasonably deep opening so it doesn't feel too arduous to grab stuff from the bot

No issues with it, and I think the specific airlines I used it with were Delta and American Airlines. I always used it as a carry-one, and it fits well underneath the seat. All of that to say...

I only travel once a year, but I just took a 7 day domestic trip using the Patagonia Refugio 30L backpack. I had 3 days worth of clothes, a jacket and an extra pair of shoes in the laptop compartment, toiletries, makeup, and a bulky round brush type hair dryer. It as a snug fit. I should have left t
