Deciding on new onebag
The only way that the osprey is comfortable to take on a 10 mile walk would be if you modded it to take a hip belt. I love it for urban stuff and it fits in almost every sizer as a personal item but it’s not designed for walking. Im eu based so havent got direct experience with ULA stuff but that lo

Osprey Daylite 26+6
I tried to post about the osprey 26+6 after my trip and the mods refuse it ..... It fit into the personnal item bin but you must NOT use the 6 liters extension.

New air passenger rights in Europe include standardized dimensions for carry-ons
So, if I understand, this means that the Osprey Fairpoint 40 is out (55 cm + 35 cm + 23 cm = 113 cm) and the expanded Osprey 26+6 is acceptable only as carry-on (43 cm + 33 cm + 21 cm = 97 cm), not a personal item. 😞

Can a full size carry on backpack fit under the seat?
Depends on the plane but that’s really big. I just flew first class on Alaska and my Osprey 26+6 that fits under every plane seat ever didn’t fit under the seat!

New air passenger rights in Europe include standardized dimensions for carry-ons
So the popular Osprey 26+6 would now be too big at 43x33x16 cm

Osprey Daylite 26+6
My 26+6 (in unexpanded mode) did not fit under a 787-10 seat here. And no, if only a third of it fits, then it doesn't fit.

Depend on your airline. Some airlines will force you to put in the sizer. Some airlines doesn’t. Check online comment first. In order for my osprey 26+6 fit in the sizer of 6 inch thick, the bag needs to be under pack a lot. https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/s/vSEgF5AhAP

Personal item for a short girl?
Firstly, it is important to measure your torso. I am a little shorter than you, but my torso is long at 17 in. However, I prefer backpacks closer to 15-in. Since you don’t require a travel backpack, I strongly recommend Fjallraven Kanken Laptop (17-in version would be 20L) and Kanken Outlong (18L) b

Is the "personal item only" backpack mostly a European low-cost airline thing?
It’s primarily a European thing, but US airlines aren’t that much more relaxed (examples below). The key things to remember are the pros vs cons of personal item. Obviously, the pros are tickets are cheaper and you’re highly unlikely to have to gate check. The cons are you’re more likely to get bump

Bag Finder Megathread - 13 July 2026
You can attach a crisscrossed cord to the four exterior toggles on the Osprey 26+6. The cross crossed cord allows you to strap an extra folded hoody, jacket or zipped pouch. Concerning the lack of external compression straps, maybe just don’t expand the bag? Unexpanded, the bag should fit under the
