If the M50 is too bulky for you, you should consider either a point and shoot or a mirrorless on the smaller side with a pancake lens. I don't have the e-pl9 but have the e-pl1 and e-p7. Great value for money, perfect size and weight for travel. If you pair them with a pancake lens you can take them any where. If the e-pl9 is anything like the other Olympus Pens it's a great option.

Yes it is. But with my PEN E-PL9 and E-P7 the screens are bright enough when turned up all the way to be viewable in direct sunlight which goes a long way in reducing the frustration of no EVF. These later screens are much brighter than the earlier PENs.
