That is a little strange. I recently switched from nordvpn to proton VPN and proton works perfectly with questrade even when connected.

My nord vpn worked great first little while but now times out a lot on Canadian servers. There’s also very limited Canadian servers that are different than normal nord vpn servers since they work fine. Hope it gets fixed or updates soon.

VPNs are patchy and slow. Buying unlimited Macao/Hong Kong eSim is the solution, or actually any foreign eSim. They don't go through the firewall. You can try NordVPN as well, but better to have both.
