My first week with the Nikon Z6III

Quick note since many of your points are video recording specific: Likely in a bid to split the capabilities of cameras, Nikon also made the ZR, which is basically a Z6iii with no viewfinder and some shaving off of camera features in exchange for loads of video specific features, including 3D LUT. Upgrading camera for freelance video work: FX3, Nikon ZR, or stretch for the new FX5?

Not sure if you have ever heard this piece of advice, but know that it is the only piece of advice you ever really need when considering new gear: buy the tools you need right now. So, write down a list of things you need currently out of a camera. Try not to be swayed by specs that you know may exi

Small, travel friendly corporate video kit?

I don't love phones or pocket gimbals for corporate events, I find the in-focus backgrounds distracting. This YouTuber has some good videos on lightweight travel gear: https://youtu.be/Je6Rlzbrvww His audio is very expensive, but excellent. You could save money there. I might lean toward the latest

Invest in RED or BlackMagic in 2026?

I've used canon, red, and arri. I think it depends on what your shooting and how. Run and gun? Canon c70 or c80 or Nikon zr (red sensor). Big production with crew. Used arri or red. Either would work great. I had a red one mx 4k years ago and I think the image still holds up to today's newer cameras

What is wrong with my workflow ?

you forgot to turn on the CST to Rec709? Maybe its the reason why it looks grey and you have to crank up the sat to compensate. Beside point: IMO, do you really need raw footage? 10bit log is already enough and more suitable for gun and run/ just record type of workflow, an fx3 or fx30 is a better u

Still worth going into 2026?

Unless you’re getting hired a lot to specifically shoot on a Sony FX3, I would get a Nikon ZR instead. It offers a lot more features for almost $2000 less than the FX3 which is about 5 yrs old now. If you’re only shooting your own gigs totally get the ZR. The main advantage to an fx3 is that it is c

FX5 is here, what do you guys think?

No stills photography is a terrible evolution IMO. I Would literally sell all my stuff and buy the fx5 if it had raw stills as well. I shoot hybrid like 80% vids and 20% photos professionally But for personal work i shoot way more stills. Having one body that can do it all is the reason why i sold m

Canon R6 V or Nikon ZR

As I’m sure you’re well aware from your own research, there is no wrong choice here. I know that doesn’t exactly help your analysis paralysis, but in regard to solo filmmaking both the R6V and the ZR are fantastic - there is no “better tool” between the two. If you’re asking me, the value propositio

Pyxsis 6k vs Nikon ZR

Hey there! I have a BMCC 6k and the Nikon ZR. The ZR is incredibly run and gun friendly. Fast set up with any style of shooting. Will be a beast on the gimbal for sure. I prefer BMs menus as they’re more cinema driven, whereas the ZR is very much a photo/video hybrid menu. In terms of dynamic range

Meditations on the Nikon ZR (from a trip to Japan)

I like the video! I agree with your overall take. Even with its limited dynamic range, I think the ZR has the best image in this kind of form factor — better than the FX3, all of the Lumix cameras, the C50. And I love the body design and screen. That said, the camera is really hard to use right now
