He's dead, Jim (D500 replacements?).
No Z8 II soon, it will be at least a year after a Z9II, and the only pro Z cameras (settings banks like you're used to) are the Z8 and Z9. The highest-end DX Z body is the Z50II, which is a D5x00 replacement camera and not nearly up to the pro standards. Why not just send it to Nikon and use their f

Is this an upgrade or a downgrade?
Since YOU enjoy shooting with your D610 more, then to you the Z50 II is a downgrade regardless of what anyone else says. Life is too short...shoot with what you want to shoot.

Looking to upgrade.
Nikon Z50 II and with an FTZ ... Nikkor 18-140 mm f/3.5-5.6, Nikkor 70-300 mm f/4.5-6.3, Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8G, Tokina 10-20 mm f/2.8G I mean, you can do that, but I wouldn't. Simply put, the new 16-50, 18-140, 50-250, and all wide angle options put the older F-mount lenses to shame. An FTZ is an expe

how do i increase the sharpness of my wildlife shots?
From the attached images, it is difficult to tell as it seems either reddit or the method of export has heavily downscaled the images, that paired with the compression artifacts makes it nearly impossible to pinpoint any specific issue relating to sharpness vs what the lens and camera are capable of

Birding camera recommendations
Definitely A6700 + 200-600 over Z50 II + 180-600. The A6700 has a higher resolution and IBIS and I think the 200-600 has a reputation for being sharper than the 180-600. The 150-500 recommendation is mostly for budgetary reasons, but it is also much more compact than the big 600mm zooms. Seriously,

Convince me why Nikon Z50 II is a bad buy and should go for Sony?
You made a good choice. There are fanboys for every brand, as you can see in the comments. I was considering the Z50 II myself, but that old low-resolution sensor is a deal-breaker for me. Nikon made a huge mistake cheaping out on that. In the end, these are all good cameras, and I think it comes do

Should I buy Sony a6400 or Nikon Z50II ?
Cheap budget choice? The A6400 was a top-tier APS-C option when it launched and was priced higher than what Nikon is charging in 2025 for its entry-level Z50 II. In fact, it’s still outselling the Z50 II today, because Nikon decided to cheap out and recycle a sensor from 2019. the Z50 II has a very

Is Nikon Z50 II better than Canon R50 bundle for a beginner?
Can you provide some feedback? I tried a Nikon Z50 II and I noticed the rear tilt-flip screen drastically lost contrast when I tried to increase brightness beyond +1. With it being a budget camera in Nikon’s lineup this meant the screen wasn’t all that bright to begin with. Is that your experience t

My film camera broke and I think its finally time to switch to digital. Am I heading in the right direction with this purchase?
The Z50 II is not significantly better. If you can spend a little more money, consider the EOS R10 with the 18-45mm lens for $1099. It is a crop sensor camera that has such features as autofocus joystick, uses the faster UHS-II SD memory card, more buttons and dials.

Reasons to switch to Nikon
What metrics did you come up with that led you to conclude that the Z50 is better than the R7? There's a strong case for the Z50 II but the original? No chance. I think if you're being that biased towards Nikon you've probably made your mind up already.
