Beginner Nikon camera recommendation $1000–$1200?
Z50ii, look for the 2-lens kit on Nikon’s refurb sale. It’s hands down Nikon’s best entry-level wildlife camera.

Z fc or Z50 II?
Z50 II no doubt. Only reason to go with Z fc would be budget limit. Or if you absolutely want retro style body.

Which camera should I pick for my first camera?
Too add to my point you just can't beat the ergonomics of the Nikon. In the hand it's very comfortable and dials are intuitive. I find the Fuji and Sony cameras to feel very awkward in the hand. On top of that you get really great performance from the z50ii

When will custom picture controls take off? Or will it not?
I don’t think it’s snub nosing, but I don’t think it’s a big consideration for most people when buying a Nikon. Now, the Z50II and the Z5II even have a dedicated CPC button. And there are a few recipes to download from Nikon Imaging Cloud made by creators. So Nikon clearly wants CPC to become more p

Is d500 worth it?
I had both the d500 and z50 ii for a whil and would swap them as a curiosity. I found for AF, the z50 ii was significantly better (ie easier) to get birds. This doesn’t make the d500 bad, but I could get more photos in focus with the z. Subject detection is like cheating haha. Group AF on the d500 w

Just picked up a Nikon Z5 II and getting weird focus misses even with eye-AF. What am I doing wrong?
Nikon’s default color for focus confirmation is red (I know right?), you have to change it to green. Something is off with OPs camera because out of the box everything was working for me much better than this (z6iii and z50ii). I did set the cameras to focus priority, I do that with every camera aft

D500 or Z50ii
I at one point had a Z50II and a D500. I kept the Z50II. There are certainly ways in which the D500 is better. Dual card slots, better viewfinder performance at the highest frame rates, better body and weather sealing. However, in some edge use case scenarios the Z50II is better to actually capable

Zfc in May 2026?
Here is a Reddit thread from about a year ago that compares the Zfc and Z50ii. If I were you, I would go into a local camera store that sells Nikon and try out both cameras. They have very different ergonomics and trust me on this, you want to make sure that the camera you end up with feels good in

If anyone fancy shooting jpgs here's my new FCPC
FCPC is Flexible Color Picture Control compatible with Nikon Zf, Z6 III, Z50 II and Z5 II for now. You add ER-VINTAGE-C.NP3 to root of your SD card and then with Manage Picture Control in camera copy it to one slot, select it with Select Picture Control and set WB to Natural Light Auto and results w

Hot Takes: buy a Z50ii or ZF?
You are now comparing a crop sensor camera with a retro style full frame, so yes big difference in size and weight. There’s also the big question on difference in price You would not be buying DX lenses if you went with the Zf from start (unless you’re being flyé for some reason) so DX cropping shou
