Which Nikon Z body is best for dog photography with strong AF tracking (without going to Z8/Z6III)?
Yes, the D850 is a DSLR and it’s expected to work well, but if you want to buy a Nikon Z and not regret the purchase in the long run, you should go for a model with the EXPEED 7 processor. Cameras with EXPEED 6 work well, but they lack many modes and features. The Z5II uses the same sensor as the Zf

Mirrorless D500
High-end crop sensor, i.e. north of $2,000 USD, is a hard sell. Even Fujifilm, the most successful crop sensor vendor, couldn't move X-H2 and X-H2S bodies when all of their other cameras were regularly out of stock. I also think Nikon was pretty successful in moving their higher-end DX DSLR customer

What camera should I buy?
Skip the first gen Z6, the Z6II is a bare minimum. But if budget is tight, go for a D750 (FX) or D500 - but the D500 (DX) will tie you to crop lenses, while a full frame (FX) camera will give you the option to use the same lenses on mirrorless (if recent lenses) with the FTZ adapter. Using a Z6 pure

I have a Z7ii, Zf, and Z8 and I do a fair bit of dog photography. What kind of grip do you have? Does it have a thumb hook? I have the NEEWER CA-079 (not their CA-073 model), and it lets me use the Zf one-handed. The thumb grip makes a huge difference. Maybe try a better $30 grip before an expensive

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! April 24, 2026
Hey, Looking for some advices about some gears. I do mostly photography while traveling. I used to have a Nikon D600 with a 24-85 3.5-5.6 lens that I loved but sold it a few years back. I wanted to get back into photography so I bought a used Nikon Z6 II with two lens : Tamron 16-30 f2.8 and a Nikon

Yeah, I suppose that may be a big factor to consider. Probably only have around $500-600 for an all-rounder zoom lens. I already have the Nikon 40mm f2 as a good prime. I know the Z50ii has much better AF. Wondering if the image quality of a full frame like the Z6ii or A7ii is worth a slower AF.

I need help. I’m torn between buying the Canon EOS R50 V and the Nikon Z6 ii. What should I get, if my goal is wildlife photography?
The Nikon Z5II would be a much better choice than the Z6II for what you want. It has the current generation autofocus.

Seeking community advice: to FX or to not FX
Switching to fx is fine as long as you afford... But option should be Z5ii if only doing travel photos or videos .. Heck even z50ii will serve you better in terms of quality of things improvement over Z6ii due to expeed 7.... I would say Z5ii or Z50ii with full frame lenses so that you can jump ship

Why Leica?
The SL2-s sensor is ironically built by... Sony. It's similar to sensors in Sony A7III and Nikon Z6II. You're living a lie my friend haha
