Switched From Canon To Nikon, I think I made the right choice.

"....looking on upgrading to the Nikon Z6ii or Z5ii next year." The Z6II will not feel like much of an upgrade. When you do get around to upgrading, don't bother with anything other than an EXPEED 7 body - they are an order of magnitude better in the AF department. Currently that means a Z50II, Z5II

DSLR or Mirrorless for airshow photography, $800 budget

A few thoughts from some who has shot a significant amount of airshows, and has experience with both DSLR and mirrorless: First off, airshow photography isn't very demanding on autofocus. You don't need some fancy camera for that, it's generally a plane contrasted in a bright sky That said, I don't

Mirrorless D500

High-end crop sensor, i.e. north of $2,000 USD, is a hard sell. Even Fujifilm, the most successful crop sensor vendor, couldn't move X-H2 and X-H2S bodies when all of their other cameras were regularly out of stock. I also think Nikon was pretty successful in moving their higher-end DX DSLR customer

Problems with Viltrox 35mm 1.2 on Z8

I had the same with one of my Z6III's and my Viltrox 35/F1.2: all settings equal, but closing down the aperture... it resulted in the camera thinking you're closing down the aperture, but you actually don't. Result = overexposure. When I looked at the iris, it seemed to be closing ... slowly... like

Retired pro … returning to shooting. Absolutely hate the Z6ii mirrorless/EVF … How do I not sound like an old grumpy dude and get back to enjoying using these shitty cameras ?

I'd trade that z6-ii back in for a z6-iii or maybe even a z5-ii, why get back in the game with a camera that's only a few years after when you gave it up, instead of a current model? That said, if you hate mirrorless, just... don't get one? It's not like DSLR stopped existing. Heck, why even restric

Nikon upgrade question

I used to used a z6ii. AF was very difficult to work with. AF-C was very unreliable. I found using AF-S and constantly refocus to get better results. Images when the focus was there were great. I switched to a 6iii and all of my complaints were fixed and I kept the same image quality Id highly recom

Cropped or full frame?

The difference IMHO is overblown for all but professionals, your skill, luck, good lighting and good lenses will be more important than sensor size. The potential niggle could be astro, but I haven't found any critical issues with noise on my Z50 (same sensor as Z50ii) that makes me want to rush out

What camera should I buy?

Skip the first gen Z6, the Z6II is a bare minimum. But if budget is tight, go for a D750 (FX) or D500 - but the D500 (DX) will tie you to crop lenses, while a full frame (FX) camera will give you the option to use the same lenses on mirrorless (if recent lenses) with the FTZ adapter. Using a Z6 pure

Anyone return to DSLR after using mirrorless?

I did, for the optical view finder and to easily swap lenses between my F3. I sold my Nikon Z6ii and picked up a D700 body and it’s been great. All I needed was a decent DSLR body to shoot vintage glass with for my use case.

What features from older cameras do you miss the most and wish manufacturers would bring back to modern mirrorless cameras?

Nikon D850, D750, Z6II and Z30. While Z6 supports battery grip, but it doesn't have flash nor IR receiver. Z30 has none. :(
