My father passed and had a ton of synth equipment

Firstly, I’m sorry for your loss. I sincerely hope you’re able to make a home yourself for as much of this equipment as possible. The Mackie HR824 powered speakers, for example, are some of the best ever released in that price rangeeasy on the ears, bass is low and tight, plenty detailed enough.

Bought a JBL LSR310S and so stoked!

It doesn't surprise me that people would leave JBL for that reason. Same thing happened with AKG when Harman bought them (and so they went across the street and created Austrian Audio). Kalis sound fine, too. I don't know if having any serious conversation about this $300 monitor vs that $300 monito

Why do people say Yamaha HS5 (or the entire HS series) is uncomfortable to listen to?

Because that's the philosophy carried over from the NS10's. If you can get your mix to NOT sound like s*** on them, your mix will translate well to every other speaker. In reality, NS10's were a failed bookshelf speaker, and Yamaha ended up giving them away to studios all over the world. Producers u
