What's your default firewall for emergencies?
Linksys WRT54G does everything and more. Netgate if they can't handle the power of the Linksys

Got this beast for 7 bucks, but I dont know if CE can access modern modem WiFi
You could get an older router with the protocols needed, connect it to the laptop, then connect it to your active router. Around me at least I always see cheap Linksys WRT54G's for example that would work.

Uneducated - help a fool out please! Installing new APs
I've had good experiences with TP-LINK; 7 devices at a site going on five years, 6 of them outdoors, and no problems, except when I have to add a new device and I've forgotten how to use Omada. Pretty much every consumer TP-Link thing has multiple configuration options, so your router can be set up

Anyone Know Where The Access Point Is?
Wrt54g when people demanded Linksys(cisco) release the firmware source code due to it being on the Linux kernel. So they released the firmware after being pressured and then a $50 router could have the same features as a $500 router. It now lives on with DDWRT and Openwrt if you have an old router t

What is the best router you’ve ever owned?
I've had a few that stick out. Linksys WRT54G. Whatever Mikrotik model the WISP back home handed out. Netgear Nighthawk R7000. For me, all of these were absolute tanks. They just...didn't quit. I still have my Nighthawk because, you know, just in case.

Thoughts and stories regarding the legendary Linksys-Cisco WRT54G router
I think it was my first router too👍. It was solid as a rock and the only time I had an issue was early on when an update broke it. Funny timing as I was at Walmart in Canada today and picked up a Linksys AX1800 basic WiFi 6 router on liquidation for $25. Probably about a 1/6th of what I paid in the

What’s the oldest piece of technology that you own?
Linksys WRT54G. It's the Nokia 3310 reincarnated into a router. Simply refuses to die.

An urgent message from the founder and developer of FreshTomato
Freshtomato exist since many many years and is one of the best alternative firmware for routers (it allow for example to monitor every single in/out connection to your router). Thoughts and stories regarding the legendary Linksys-Cisco WRT54G router
Fresh outta college I moved out of my parents home to an apartment across the street. Being a nerd and a bit of a cheap skate I still had my servers in their basement and wanted to get internet and access to my homelab. Internet in my area was slow at 512Kbps, so I bought two of these and using DD-W
