I know this isn't the same thing but LADWP has a rebate on the Levoit core Mini air purifier that makes it free aside from sales tax. It's not spectacular and is only for small rooms but it's something available at target and it's almost free.

I use the Levoit Core mini for my bedroom. It's the only one I've ever owned and it's very quiet. Levoit has various air purifiers available rated for different sized rooms. Maybe someone with more air purifier expertise can reccomend some other brands.

Yes! I primarily do it for allergens and dust as we have pets. We have the levoit core mini. Inexpensive, works well, and takes generic refill cartridges to keep cost lower: we have one in all bedrooms.
