What else can be uninstalled from a new Thinkpad?
don't forget improved battery life. I convinced oomf to switch to Linux on his gaming laptop; his battery lasts 4x longer now. later, I sold him one of my ThinkPads (a t480 with 72wh external battery), he's liking it so far (and running Linux on it, of course.)

i summon all the mighty T480 programmers
Depends on your needs. I'd go for the one with the bigger battery and upgrade the SSD by myself. If you want to do AI stuff on the ThinkPad itself: don't. Just offload that to your desktop. Just SSH into it. For frontend development you don't need much. You need VScode, a browser and some CLI tools

Need help choosing a ThinkPad (after a really bad Legion experience)
If this is your first ThinkPad, go newer. The T480 is great for tinkering, but the T14 Gen 2 is the better daily driver for most people, faster RAM too. What you do gain is a massive generational leap in performance over any 8-10th gen Intel chip and you’ll feel it in every single task. Just open so

Why are Lenovo ThinkPads so highly praised?
There was a really good post about this a couple weeks ago, that I fully recommend, I agree with every single word of it and my only single criticism is that the author didn't take a chance to add that what is true of ThinkPads is also true of every other corporate-aimed type of ocmputer. The Myth o

I’m starting to resent my T480
As a student, you might as well come back to MacBook - brand-new Neo is 850 CAD with education discount, or you should be able to find older M chip Air models under 1000 CAD second hand. You get Microsoft Office IIRC, good battery life, good bright screen (some ThinkPads model configs still somewhat

Is buying a used Thinkpad even worth it anymore?
If you just want a lightweight good battery laptop, the ThinkPad has never been the solution. Batteries have never been a ThinkPad strong point. Until around the T460 era, displays were a MARKED bad point - and even now, if you're looking for an outdoor usable display, ThinkPad panels are traditiona

thinkpads that are like t480
The idea that the t480 is the "last great ThinkPad" is bonkers The t490 was just as well built but thinner, the downside was only 1 sodimm slot and only the (much bigger) internal battery. They kept using pretty much the same parts between the t490, t14, and t14 Gen 2. If you really want both sodimm

Why would you ever buy a T480 when you can buy a T14 Gen 2 or higher for cheaper?
I think it's down to influencer video content. There's loads of people out there claiming the T480 is legendarily good and even explicitly that it's outright better than successors. Almost all of the T480's actual benefits as a computer exist solely in 2017 and in people's memories. The batteries wi

What did you buy your thinkpad for?
T480: My first ThinkPad. Started life in a tuning garage running ECU software before being converted into a fun Linux hobby machine. Eventually died due to a fried VRM. X1C6: Dedicated media machine for the bed. Undervolted, repasted, and fitted with a "new" original LG battery. It’s the cheapest wa
