Almost sounds like bait for the eternal Thinkpad argument lol....EscapeNo9728 summarizes things well. ThinkWiki also has a good graphic table of the history. And there have been a few Youtube vids on the topic as well. But to be honest, software can drive a lot of your decision making. The old geeze

"Ivy Bridge (3rd Gen Intel) — last generation with easy CPU socketing (PGA) in this form factor" Fourth gen models (Haswell) like the L440/L540, T440p/T540p, W540/W541 and Y510p were the last of the socketed systems. "Best balanced: i7-3612QM or i7-3632QM — quad-core at 35W TDP, won't thermal thrott

I disagree. I think modern ThinkPads are also great. This community is a niche. We love the ThinkPad as not just a product, but also the heritage that it represents. For me, I got started on ThinkPads when my dad got an T61 in 2006. Although he doesn't have it anymore, that was my literal introducti

To be honest, I'm more worried about how W11 will run than the VMs. I used to run VMs on my T410 around five years ago and it was mostly fine. If you're buying a new T470 for this, though, definitely get something quad-core at least, preferably six-core. A T440p can be had for $150 and then you can

I am also huge fan of T440p. I bought this since 2015 Feb and still use it. I did upgrade RAM to 16GB (8+8), Change primary 2.5" HDD 512GB to SSD 1TB, add 2nd hard disk bay from CD-Rom location and put another SSD 1TB. Lastly, I changed network card to AC-7260. Now, I had issues of this network card

I am a huge T440P fan. I bought one new from Lenovo and used it for 5 years, and its still in use by someone else. Its a tank, and my favorite Thinkpad of all time. However -- time has come to retire it. I would not sink more money into it. I'm not sure what 300 EUR buys you.

I have the original hdd caddy from lenovo, found someone selling a bunch of new old stock from 2016 a while back. I don't think the generic ones will have a screw hole but they should stay in place fairly well regardless. I saw somebody else in this thread mention the trackpad replacement. If you wa

Our company is a Lenovo company. Out of all the many Lenovo laptops we have had, the one so far that I have seen that has the least problems is the ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 (AMD). Many of the T480, T490 and T14 Intel gen 1 and 2 have been trash. The biggest problem all of those have been the USB-C ports a

It just works for me on any of my Intel Based ThinkPads (all I need to do is to provide Internet connection via a USB wired tethered connection with an Android phone to enable the repos and install the Intel Firmware for Wi-Fi). Beyond that, it is simply rock solid, I can forget of updating or doing
