quick update, after removing the backplate and not seeing any burn marks, I decided to try the original lenovo charger (65W) and immediately I had the same problem and smoke came from the USB port. I'm quite sure there's a bent or faulty pin in the USB port and I will have to replace it, if that's p

Almost sounds like bait for the eternal Thinkpad argument lol....EscapeNo9728 summarizes things well. ThinkWiki also has a good graphic table of the history. And there have been a few Youtube vids on the topic as well. But to be honest, software can drive a lot of your decision making. The old geeze

u/Obvious_Snow125, we've had in our household a T440p, pretty much since new and since about 2016, the T440p has been and it up to this date, my better half's main device. We also have the thick battery for the laptop, though that battery is never been used -> our laptops run 100% of the time docked

Lenovo ThinkPads are always a good bet, something like the T440p that came out around 2013 would work. If you want more of the white/grey with more weird rounded shapes to make it distinctly early 2000’s, some companies like Panasonic continue to make old style laptops (like the SC-SV2 being a recen

u/Flat-Technician-3086, sorry to read what you've described in your post (first and foremost and I read through your comments as well). Just tried to charge my Lenovo t480s and once I plugged in the cable with a third party charger (I have successfully used it before) immediately the USB port starte

u/I_Am_Elysium_, we are extremely pleased with out Thinkpads... can't really say antyhing bad about them. My very first Thinkpad, was back in '94ish, a 560, NOT a T560, but just a 560, which back in the day, that was a 'beast' witha 'whoaping' 40mb, NOT GB, 40 megabytes of RAM, a 'gigantic' 1GB 2.5 ID

I disagree. I think modern ThinkPads are also great. This community is a niche. We love the ThinkPad as not just a product, but also the heritage that it represents. For me, I got started on ThinkPads when my dad got an T61 in 2006. Although he doesn't have it anymore, that was my literal introducti

There is no such thing as a ThinkPad Ideapad, just Lenovo Ideapad which is not a ThinkPad. Even my Lenovo ThinkPad T440p i5-4200M with 8GB was able to handle Fedora since 2015. Read my recommendation again.

I am also huge fan of T440p. I bought this since 2015 Feb and still use it. I did upgrade RAM to 16GB (8+8), Change primary 2.5" HDD 512GB to SSD 1TB, add 2nd hard disk bay from CD-Rom location and put another SSD 1TB. Lastly, I changed network card to AC-7260. Now, I had issues of this network card
