[UPDATE] Qualcomm, fsck you.
its becoming more of a problem now as more and more of them switch to soldered wireless. Last laptop I had I just switched to intel ax200. But my current P16s gen2a frigging came with soldered wireless. not OP - but also qualcomm victim here. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/QCNF

Help me decide (prices in AUD) P1 vs MBP - workstation to replace my desktop
While not "bad", the base display on the P1 is adequate but otherwise nothing outstanding. The 4k IPS or tandem OLED (which has its own issues, but is overall nice) would bring some parity, but the MBP display is the better one as configured Yeah that's a $500 add on option! 😣 I don't mind the exist

Anyone else having a surprisingly smooth experience with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS on newer hardware?
I run it on a Lenovo P16s Gen 4 and it's been great. I certainly don't think it's surprising though.

Thinkpad newbie - Thinkpad incoming, debating OS
I have a Thinkpad P14s with the Ryzen AI 9 370 HX processor, 64gb of RAM, 1 TB nvme, Wi-Fi 7 and a 100%sRGB display. I purchased in on black Friday, installed Ubuntu 24.04.03 LTS on it and it's been flawless for my use case (software development). It's running a Lenovo OEM kernel (installed automati

Best computer science laptop?
This one would check every box: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadp/thinkpad-p14s-gen-6-14-inch-amd-mobile-workstation/21ql0020us - plenty of CPU, RAM and storage, decent enough iGPU for something that's not for gaming, excellent screen, 3 pounds, uses a 65w USBC charger. I love my Linux desktop but god audio is a mess
Ironically Lenovo fucked up the drivers on Windows for my Thinkpad p16s Gen 4 and it only sounds good on Linux.

Any review on Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 (14” AMD)?
It is strange. Display section in specs are only on the US product page. On French, UK and Ferman, this specific section is not displayed (which is strange). If we look on the full specs page (https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_P14s_Gen_6_AMD?tab=spec), there is no mention about restrict

is worth buying a laptop with intel Ultra 7-258V?
I would say yes, MacBook is the best atm, BUT only if you don't look at the prices. I have a Lenovo P16s gen 3 for 1300€(MacBook pro starts at 2000€, 16" MacBook even at 2400€). And I love my Lenovo, superb product, nice power and nice battery life(I have the 155h processor and get about 8-10 hours

Best P14s for Arch Linux daily driver: Gen 6 AMD or Gen 5 Intel?
So I'm running Ubuntu 25.04 on a Gen 6 AMD p16s with the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 350. I didn't pick the fancy screen, but otherwise it's the same machine. My notes below might seem cynical, but I'm only emphasizing the lowlights so that you can make an informed decision. Your questions - Fans are super quiet

buying my fist thinkpad
If you have a desktop, you're better off using that for games/3D modeling. Thinkpads make poor gaming PC's. The only current Thinkpad I think is worth considering for gaming is the P16/T16g Gen3 with 12GB or more of VRAM (and if it were my money I'd get no less than 16GB), but these laptops are a pa
