Dream laptop
ThinkPad P16 if mostly on desk, P1 gen 8 if you need a bit more portability. Desktop if it doesn't need to be a laptop, much more power for your money.

Comparison between the best
ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 with Core Ultra 9 285HX and RTX 5000 Pro P series, but not the -s models, those are rebadged T14/T16 besides few exceptions Depends on the market, your budget and performance needs. Generally, P series will be the answer. FYI P series battery life isn't impressive. P16 and older P

Buying Advice: ThinkPad for AI / Cybersecurity Studies
If portability doesn’t matter and performance + quiet operation are the priority, the ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 or 3 is the best ThinkPad you can buy. It has HX-series CPUs, the strongest cooling in the lineup, supports very high RAM (ideal for AI and VMs), and sustains heavy loads far better than P1 or X1

Zephyrus G16 as desktop replacement?
Been a 2021 G15 Zephyrus user before my G14 2024, I am an engineer, it gets abused at home and has handled stuff just fine. However mines a base variant with a 4050 and Ryzen 7 8845. My "true" DTR device is my ThinkPad P16 G2, but honestly build quality between Le Tank (Thinkpad) and Lil Guy (G14) a

Laptop suggestions for college? Be relentless.
Hey, totally valid question — especially with a big purchase like this. Since you’re looking at engineering or neuroscience, and care about long battery life, quiet performance, and running programs like CAD, here are a few laptops worth checking out under $2,200. What to Look For CPU: i7/i9 or Ryze

ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 (for work)
I think it’s a matter of habit — I’ve always used keyboards with numeric keypads. So personally, working on a PC without one feels impractical to me. For my use case (mainly with SOLIDWORKS), the ThinkPad P16 Gen3 chassis allows for much more powerful components than those available in the ThinkPad

Hot take
Not to obliterate your bubble here I do all of that, for $2500. ThinkPad P16 Gen2, 4K OLED, i9-13900HX + RTX ADA 4000, 6.5 pounds, 9 with the charger. Can run my entire steam library, including triple A' titles at 1440P/4K. Deal hunting eBay, it's also my work laptop as it has all the necessary CAD

laptops for industrial design engineering
We use these guys as mobile workstations- incredibly heavy and power hungry, but does the job quite well. ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 (16” Intel) Mobile Workstation. As far as the perpetual PC vs Mac, learn both.
