The “budget” Kobo is only $50 cheaper than the Paperwhite. The Kindle Basic is $50 cheaper than the Kobo Clara. The Kobo Libra is $50 more than the Paperwhite. Kobo libra colour disappointment
It sounds like you haven't let it charge properly yet & you have a faulty unit (unresponsive screen, pinhole, etc.) But it also sounds like colour e-ink isn't for you (I have a Kobo Clara Colour & I agree that it looks like a grainy digital screen rather than paper), a lot of people will agree with
