Kobo vs Kindle

I’m a pretty dedicated Kobo owner but it’s largely personal preference. The Paperwhite is a really good device and Amazon’s ecosystem is very easy to use. There’s a reason that Amazon is basically the default ereader for a lot of people. I switched to Kobo for two reasons. First, the form factor of

Am I missing anything about the Kindle devices?

Lots of reasons, really. Some people are simply tired of Amazon’s near-monopoly (they’ve worked hard to ensure many people don’t even realise other ereaders exist that aren’t Kindles), or they don’t like Amazon as a company. Some people have genuine issues with Send to Kindle - if you want/need to r

Just got my first Kobo - kind of regretting it after years with Kindle

I switched from Kindle Oasis to Kobo Libra Colour and will try to answer some of your questions. You can change the screen zones from the settings, I can't remember what the default was but I have the whole middle part for the menus not just the bottom of the screen, and you can drag from the top to

Honestly, I’m frustrated with where e-ink is going

I guess eInk devices have to find an area where they are actually better for everyone. Kindles did that. They are better than books in some regard: you can carry around many books and it is light and doesn't need much space you can increase the font size so you can read without glasses if you are a

What’s your favorite e-Reader and why?

Kobo Libra Colour. The built in Overdrive and Google Drive are handy. The UI is awesome. The ergonomics are much better than my Kindles. I’ve mostly stopped using Kindles now ( I’ve had them all including 1st gen and Oasis)

Recent new drm on kindles

I mean, a couple people posted a few days ago having this issue. I know at least one of them I suggested creating a log and posting to the nodrm github. And I know that on the github, at least 2 separate posts had the same problem with 5.16.2.1.1 and the nodrm mod was able to reproduce the same prob

Amazon is shooting it's self in the foot.

Ditched Amazon years ago because 1. What you're speaking on. 2. Hardware team just gave up after the Oasis 7" and have spent the past decade putting out nonsense with zero vision other than marketing while Boox, Kobo, Pocketbook keep iterating form and size and bezel considerations and 3. Other comp

What is the prettiest e-reader, with a premium feel (touch, build quality)?

The Pocketbook Verse/Era models are super sleek looking and more “premium” feeling. The Verse’s use older/less contrasty e-ink panels though. The Era is really stunning! The Kindle Paperwhite (and any Kindle really) is very solid and well built in comparison to the Kobo’s, and it’s a very straightfo

How long does it take you to read a book?

I read a kindle book every day, sometimes two if they are in the 350 page size. I’m 71 this week and retired, I read 4-6 hrs per day and my entire life since grade school I have always read at least an hr per day. Since retiring in 2016 I have read over 3000 kindle books. I love my Oasis!

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie?

They discontinued the oasis and it makes me so sad, my screen broke and I can’t get a new one. But speaking to the point of this thread, when my Oasis kindle broke (RIP), I pulled out my old kindle (probably paperwhite?) that I bought in 2019 and it still works perfectly. I use it every day.
