What is the retail equivalent model of Hivi Diy3.1a system?
Wharfedale Evo 4.2 or 5.2 are very similar to the Hivi 3.1a. But those speakers are substantially more expensive. Hivi 3.1, especially with the modded crossover, is a good value for the money. You could probably snag a pair of evo 4.2 on the used market for about $600-$700. Alternatively you could b

KEF R5 Meta, worth the upgrade?
I would definitely grab the R5 Meta for $750 a piece. That's a no brainer price & if you keep them in great shape you can probably recoup 100% of your cost when you are ready to sell them. You will hear a remarkable difference vs the Q1 Meta. I have owned the R3 Meta in the past & have listened & co

New here! What setup would be the best with a budget of $800-1000 (I want it closer to $800 lol)
personally, I'd keep it simple for a first setup. Get something that will last you for a few years but leave you room to upgrade if you get more serious about the hobby. I'd also invest more in your speakers up front than your turntable, as they'll be useful for any and all playback, whether it's fr

Trying to decide between the 2 following KEF setups, budget $1500
Assume you mean the KEF Q1 Metas, I vote #2. I also go for passive when I can. Budget for stands too

KEF Coda W (W = Wow!)
Was so tempted to buy the Codas….did a mad amount of research on them. I ultimately ended up with an Arcam A15+ and Kef Q1 meta on sale for 399. I wanted a great phono section and loved the fact it had a decent built in dac and I could swap out the speakers later. For the 1k for the codas i justifie

The audiophile hobby has a pricing problem, and we need to stop pretending otherwise...
Respectfully, I wish that I had the knowledge to comprehend what the correct replication should be. I can quickly determine what I like so it's all I have to go with. In the 90's I spent way too much money and time on a sound system (Wilson Watt Puppies and Spectral electronics. This was after going

First vinyl setup advice ($2000–$2500) – Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 + speakers around KEF LSX II size
Most important- buy secondhand if you can. Hifishark, eBay, Audiogon and the like are your friends and will save you 40% - 75% off new prices. Why pay a huge margin to a dealer? Second, there are dozens of great choices. Having speakers on a desk will never be ideal, but we all have to make some com

Schiit Mani 2 or Skoll?
The PA10 isn't a bad phono, but it's not worth the $100 Fluance charges for it. Agreed it's fine for a starter, but I'd rather see it priced a lot lower than it is, considering the other options out there. It just feels to me like a half-hearted effort on Fluance's part, and then picking a price des
