Powered or Passive
Powered for budget. Take a look at studio monitors and the JBL 305 that are in your price range.

I just found out I am an audiophile
Try JBL 305P MKII - they are around $ 250 a pair, very often they are on sale. And connect them to WiiM Pro Plus - this one is around $ 220 and can stream music in very high quality from your phone, your Spotify and so on and it has voice control through remote. If you don't like the looks of JBL you

focusrite speakers
That's a really lovely idea. Though I'm going to suggest you take a different route. For speakers near your budget, I'd probably look at the JBL 305P MkII, but those are US$340 for a pair from reputable dealers. Sound good and accurate, there's an optional subwoofer that your boyfriend could buy dow

New to Wiim Ultra - Want to check if I understand setup correctly.

Budget monitors
The JBL 305 are great. I got the old version because it looks better but is technically the same. They replaced my fancy Focal monitors and I don't regret it.

Looking for 5 inch monitors for minimal techno production
JBL 305's have served me super well I've tested upgrading a few times, and it's never seemed worth it for how good the JBLs are compared to what they cost

Studio monitor help for practice?
The JBL 305P are probably the best ones but they really only thrive if you add a subwoofer that can go down to 27.5 hz too and that gets expensive really quick. (the JBL LSR 310 S is a brilliant choice though) Don't bother with a subwoofer that can't go to 27.5 hz, it's not worth it I would probably

Do I really need speakers with my controllers
I have the same controller but invested into some decent monitors but not super expensive. FYI I got a pair of JBL 305P MK2 - Sound fantastic and only about $330 each. I'd recommend the investment because the music sounds better and you can mix better on them 👍
