lost my charger once during finals week, worst timing ever. for the Omen 16 you need 200W or 230W with the 4.5mm barrel plug (hp part number TPN-DA11 or similar). best buy won't carry it but amazon has OEM replacement chargers that work fine. just avoid the super cheap $20 ones - they overheat fast.

i feel you on the thermal paste worry. first time i did it, i was nervous too. for the OMEN 16, you'll want a non-conductive paste like Arctic MX-6 or Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut so you don't short anything. Arctic MX-6 thermal paste spreads nicely. also grab a thermal pad sheet for the VRAM if needed.
