I don't think you know what you're talking about. I have a 2021 Legion 5 and the brand new HP Omen 16 is worse in everything. The HP omen is worse from power management, through the IPS screen (240hz) to the speakers which are terrible. HP omen heats up in idle, once turned on the dGPU stays on and

i feel you on the thermal paste worry. first time i did it, i was nervous too. for the OMEN 16, you'll want a non-conductive paste like Arctic MX-6 or Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut so you don't short anything. Arctic MX-6 thermal paste spreads nicely. also grab a thermal pad sheet for the VRAM if needed.
