Or how good you want your espresso to taste. (All else being equal. I used to think my delonghi super automatic machine made "excellent" espresso...that is until I got a semi-automatic hibrew h10B and a $75 conical burr grinder and discovered just how badly WRONG I WAS. The taste was night and day.

Cheap hack for making flat whites [buget $200]
Get a basic espresso machine (Hibrew H10B or CasaBrews CM5418 or basic Delonghi or other generic ones). Buy a decent hand grinder. You're good to go!
