What’s the one piece of backpacking gear you regret buying the most?

Much regret was caused by a heavy Eberlestock backpack. I loved the pockets and organization, but it was nearly 10 pounds when empty and it didn't fit me. I sold it at a loss, but enough to buy a Gregory Baltoro that is amazing, never giving it up.

What size backpack should I get?

I mean personally I just use my 65L and make it as small as possible when I do smaller trips like this. I don’t like the idea of having multiple bags so I just got one big one with a lot of adjustment. I went with a Gregory Baltoro, you can take the lid off completely for -10L and it has a bunch of

Are any other Backpacks as comfortable as the Osprey AG system?

I just got the gregory baltoro float 75 and its absolutely amazing. Carries the weight in such a great way it feels like your backpack is floating by itself if you adjust it correctly. It has a lot of features and you can adjust the backpack straps to different heights

UL with back injury?

Back in 2008 I tried a Gregory Baltoro and it definitely did NOT work. Something about the built in lumbar pad put pressure on my lower back and really irritated it. Currently my main pack is a ULA Equipment Catalyst. My wife and I backpack a lot and I usually carry all the shared gear (tent, cook s

Gregory Stout 35 RC vs Osprey Kestrel 38 for technical day hikes and overgrown trails?

I own a few backpacks of different sizes from Osprey and Gregory. They both make excellent and very durable backpacks, but there some notable differences between the brands. Gregory backpacks are usually 15-30% lighter than their Osprey counterparts, but Osprey backpacks are more feature rich (e.g.

Suggest backpacks for tall men

For a daypack, I’d suggest you take a look at either the Osprey Stratos 24 or 34 and the Osprey Atmos AG 65 or Gregory Baltoro 65 for multi-day hikes. All the ones I’ve mentioned would be perfect for someone with your height. 11 Best Daypacks for Hiking in 2026: Full Backpackers Guide would be good

Vintage Mystery Ranch Works pack or new Gregory?

You gotta go try on some new packs for fit. Eg) a Gregory pack will feel way different than say an osprey fit. Get what feels the most comfortable after lugging some bags of cat litter around the store. Me personally... LOVE my Gregory Baltoro 65L.

Can I use a 65L backpack as a carry-on?!?

Doubtful. If you pack it halfway, maybe. The limiting dimension will be the height. My Gregory Baltoro 75 has a “frame” that is too long even if I adjust it to the shortest setting and remove the “head.” For a traditional tall pack, 50L is usually where you hit the carry-on limit. Osprey makes a 65L
