What’s the one piece of backpacking gear you regret buying the most?

Much regret was caused by a heavy Eberlestock backpack. I loved the pockets and organization, but it was nearly 10 pounds when empty and it didn't fit me. I sold it at a loss, but enough to buy a Gregory Baltoro that is amazing, never giving it up.

New backpacker (after 23 years) stuck: Atmos AG 65 vs. Kakwa 55?

This is sort of an irrelevant reply (apologies) because im about to compare 2 packs youve not mentioned. However i have a 65L Gregory Baltoro and its 2.2kg before ive even put anything in it. I LOVE that pack. Its my go to if im loading up or packing my fears in UK January weather and sticking the h

Pack for fat guy

Ooh this is right up my alley as a shorter dude who was insanely fat and got fit via backpacking. I'll recommend the same pack I recommend to everyone: REI Flash 55 Also own Gregory Baltoro 75 and it is indeed very comfortable when hauling serious weight for packrafting. That said, not sure why the

Will I regret buying a backpack with more volume than I need?

My comfort items will always be my pack and sleeping pad. My Gregory Baltoro 65L is overkill, but if I cut weight where I can like tent, miscellaneous, tools, etc., then I can have a nice sleeping pad for a side sleeper like me and possibly upsize my tent if I’m taking a partner. r/ultralight_jerk i

What backpacks are y'all using? New to hammock camping and looking for advice.

The pack that fits. Osprey is a good brand and does not fit me at all. I have very broad shoulders and have had no luck with Osprey. I really like my Gregory Paragon 68 for family trips. I have a 3 and5 year old. My wife uses a Gregory Deva 65L. For my solo trips I love my ULA catalyst but it would

Ultralight/multi day canyoneering resources and advice

Overnight canyons are one of my favorite things. Welcome to the club! High level of variability depending on the character of the canyons you're looking at. Hard to give advice that fits all canyons. Two day Heaps versus five day White Canyon are very different animals. I wouldn't aim to save much w

Are any other Backpacks as comfortable as the Osprey AG system?

I just got the gregory baltoro float 75 and its absolutely amazing. Carries the weight in such a great way it feels like your backpack is floating by itself if you adjust it correctly. It has a lot of features and you can adjust the backpack straps to different heights

Wait hold on! Why is the Osprey Farpoint 40 making me dislike my Rucker 4.0???

I got an osprey farpoint as an all purpose travel/work backpack, as well as hoping to use it for rucking. This bag carries 50lbs better than my Gregory Baltoro Pro 100L. Ive considered getting a cobbler to make straps to move the weight higher in the backpack but as is it feels awesome. Are all Ospr

UL with back injury?

Back in 2008 I tried a Gregory Baltoro and it definitely did NOT work. Something about the built in lumbar pad put pressure on my lower back and really irritated it. Currently my main pack is a ULA Equipment Catalyst. My wife and I backpack a lot and I usually carry all the shared gear (tent, cook s

Gregory Stout 35 RC vs Osprey Kestrel 38 for technical day hikes and overgrown trails?

I own a few backpacks of different sizes from Osprey and Gregory. They both make excellent and very durable backpacks, but there some notable differences between the brands. Gregory backpacks are usually 15-30% lighter than their Osprey counterparts, but Osprey backpacks are more feature rich (e.g.
