Tried Ubuntu, am loving it. But there's one thing that's not allowing me to switch.
A little travel router would work. Look at GL.iNet or TP-Link if on a severe budget.

What’s everyone using for 4g backup?
Since it is a rare event, I have just setup my GL.INET travel router to connect to my 5g mobile phone via tethering, and to serve that up to its LAN port as a DHCP connection. Then I have just setup fallover on my router (actually a OPNSense but same principal) and plugged the LAN port of the travel

UTR paid for itself 10-20x in one day.
You get much more bang for the buck and configurability out of GL.iNet travel routers

How can I connect my router to my phone's hotspot when my internet service is down?
Get one of those $35 GL iNet travel routers. It can connect to your phone via WiFi or USB, and the you can connect it via Ethernet to the WAN port of your FiOS router. Bonus is that now you have a travel router for things like using IoT devices in hotel rooms or setting up a WiFi network that tunnel

best travel router for multiple devices?
It’s very straightforward but I’ll point out that the hotel’s captive portal coming up automatically is hit or miss. I always need to try a few times before I get it. That being said, still totally worth it and wouldn’t go anywhere without my GL.iNet travel router.

High Performance Hotspot
Ignoring service provider suggestions, I recommend GL.iNet offerings. They have quite a few choices for travel routers of varying capabilities and WAN options. Also very cost-effective. Usable beyond just travel, too.

Yet another cruise ship connection question
I have friends and family who let me put VPN servers in their houses/Apt. I pay for the routers, I manage them, and give them accounts on them, so they can also remotely use their home IP address when traveling. Most of them are GL iNet AR300M routers, running OpenWrt. Not fast, but cheap and depend

UniFi travel router
There are always competitor products with similar/better feature sets. If you're happy using a GL.iNet travel router of your choice, great, power to you. I was personally disappointed with my Mudi V2 despite leveraging all of its features; it was painfully slow to boot, unreliable, carrying the ethe

How do you guys game on airplanes or hotel rooms with not great WiFi. Is it possible?
I think our little Portal tribe is awesome and helpful. I forgot about my travel router. I use the GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) and the price point is significantly lower than the Slate 7 aka Slate AX just curious as to why the Slate is preferred over the Opal

Advice needed on non hyperoptic router
That's exactly what I'm going to do. I need two of them to cover my house, but GL I. Net are awesome. So far I have a travel router and a VPN server from them, but they are awesome. I used to have a Meraki network (with 2 APs, a switch and a security appliance) - but that was overkill. So I am defin
