Why openwrt on GL.iNet Flint 2?

GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) – I'm done. Outdated "stable" on EOL kernel, op24 stuck in beta limbo since Nov 2025, forced clean flashes. No more GL.iNet for me.
Lots are saying to flash it with OpenWRT. That is what I did. While researching ([OpenWrt Wiki] GL.iNet GL-MT6000[OpenWrt Wiki] GL.iNet GL-MT6000) I found that using the factory openwrt-24.10.5-mediatek-filogic-glinet_gl-mt6000-squashfs-factory.bin will brick the router.
