It's anecdotal evidence, not a study. We had a Venu 2S water damaged and a Fenix 6X Pro. Garmin declined to help because it was no warranty period anymore. My friends Fr945 also got water in it. He got an FR955 with discount. And I have a couple friends, who had their Garmin ruined by water issues.

Fair enough, and good question. No, I do not need a new device, but the feeling of a potential change is precipitated by a few things (in order of importance): I came to the Fenix by way of a FR 945. I have always missed the weight and lower profile, but had "upgraded" due to wanting sapphire glass
