Headlamp for 100M (12 hours in the darkness)
The Fenix HM65R-T V2.0 is kind of like the Salomon Adv Skin 12 of headlamps for long ultras. There are a whole bunch of reviews of this headlamp out there, so take a look.

Headlamps on a budget
Energizer headlamp, like $6 on sale. Got me through years of backpacking and the beginnings of my trail running. For the more expensive kind get the Fenix HM65R-T and a couple extra batteries.

alternatives to generators that don't make camp sound like a construction site?
What type of janky headlamp do you have that only lasts a few days? I do long multi-week backcountry canoe trips and my headlamp (Fenix HM65R) will easily last for 3 weeks of daily use.

18650 Compatibility - Fenix
I never noticed before that my Fenix brand batteries that came with my headlamp are indeed a little shorter longer than the off-brand button top ones I bought separately. I will say I never had an issue with the off-brand batteries working for me. They seem to function just as well as the Fenix batt

More comfortable headlamps?
I've got a fenix also and can vouch for the head strap mechanism. Works well. Do have to say that I had to replace my original though as it stopped working (I've got the HM65R-T) - under warrenty. My backup Black Diamond (Spot 400) is also great, comfy, reliable, though not as bright.

What else do you do when it's dark outside and snowing?
Love me a good flashlight. I recently got a new Fenix HM65R Headlamp and it's opened a world of outdoor opportunities during the winter months.

Headlamp recommendations for technical night trail training
I've been mostly using a Fenix HM65R-T v1 for several years and it's been great. I see other people have already mentioned it so I'll add another strong contender I swap between: Sofirn HS21: Easy controls, excellent coverage options, high output, a high lumen red-light, long run-times, and signific

Headlamp for 100M (12 hours in the darkness)
I use a Fenix HM65R-T for my ultras. It’s been bombproof, and takes an easily swappable battery that is also rechargeable outside the lamp. Has six settings on two different lights. The brightest I’ve found. Downside is that it heavy and a bit bulky, though it doesn’t bother me at all.

What headlamp or portable light have you used that's genuinely reliable in bad conditions?
I keep going back to the Petzl Actik Core for general use. Mine’s been through rain, freezing temps, getting dropped in mud, and it still works like day one. The battery life is solid and I like that you can swap to AAA batteries if the rechargeable pack dies. For really nasty weather though, I had b
