I have a bambino too (although mine is a plus) - i recommend getting a new tamper. I got one that automatically levels itself to the basket rim, and it also has a spring so i tamp with the same pressure everytime. Helped a ton with consistency. Besides this, you'll want a grinder. I picked a Eureka

I was using the Eureka Mignon Specialita for 3 years. It served its purpose but decided to upgrade. Went with the I200D burrs as I’ve been drinking mostly light to medium roasts. This got delivered last night so I don’t have any experience yet. Made one shot last night and it came out very balanced.

What is it you are trying to achieve by upgrading? Is it good/great espresso with a more pleasurable ritual of making it? Or the unattainable but noble quest of making the perfect espresso? Oh, that is the case afaik. If you cycle in water it will drop almost instantly. I added a needle valve that diverts water into the tank to lower the flow for preinfusion/ pressure control. During the soaking phase temperature is nearly constant.. as soon as I up the flow, the temp will drop again i

Since you're lurking in the BIFL section of reddit, I assume you aren't looking for a disposable espresso machine from Breville/Sage. They're fine, but not particularly great in my experience. At the entry level I'd say you're looking at around $1400 for just a machine, something like the Diletta Mi

i feel you on the rabbit hole. for €1500, the Lelit Mara X + Eureka Mignon Specialita is a killer combo that handles milk drinks well. or save a bit on grinder with the DF64 and put more into the machine. biggest beginner mistake is cheaping out on the grinder - your budget split should lean toward
