Help a clueless girl

For around the same cost as the small basic 4" Edifier R1280, better larger 6.5" Dayton Classic B65A $159 and they add Bluetooth as an input!

Should I get a new turntable or a new sound system? My current setup is quite shit in both departments.

Vulkanno starter powered speakers instead of Edifier R1280 or R1700: 4" A4 ARC for a small room or desktop setup. 5.25" A5 ARC for a small to medium size room. 6.5" A6 ARC for a medium to large size room. A step up are Argon Audio https://argonaudio.com/collections/active-speakers Best value is to b

This. This is your red flag. This particular red stylus. That's the warning sign. It's your cue to run in the opposite direction. Very far away. Far far away. Spend any time looking at turntables and eventually you'll come across other red styli. e.g. Audio Technica's AT-VMN40xML ($150), ATN91R ($30

Need help figuring out what setup I should get

Compact 4" Edifier R1280 are basic entry level if you can't afford anything better. Larger 6.5" Dayton Classic may be at least a bit better and have a two sizes larger mid bass driver that should provide at least a bit lower bass and impact. Compact 4" Edifier R1700 are angled back as desktop speake

Advice for a newbie

Pass on the bare minimum AT-LP60X and 4" Edifier R1280 and get something decent. AT-LPW30 $199 on sale with a good tonearm with adjustable tracking force instead of the too basic AT-LP60X without adjustable tracking force. Plus 5.25" Neumi BSP5 $169 powered speakers are a step up in size and quality

beginner turntable?

They should be better and 5" are a size larger. Smaller 4" Edifier R1280 are the bare minimum if you can't afford anything good.

Turntable Guides

Built in phono preamps are often basic with a $15 value. A better phono preamp outside of the turntable is preferred. Fluance RT82 > $22 starter phono preamp is good enough for > basic entry level compact 4" Edifier R1280 powered speakers. I recommend a speaker upgrade... Fluance RT82 > better large

Starter setup, feedback appreciated

Size, quality, price, value. The Daytons have at least a bit better drives and crossovers than the Edifier R1280. For a medium to large size room the 6.5" mid bass driver Daytons are two sizes larger than the 4" Edifiers. The Daytons cost the same or a bit less than the Edifiers. 6.5" Dayton Classic
