Why no more ATCs?
I was single pitch ice cragging the other day and switched from a Edelrid pinch (ABD) to my dmm pivot bc the ropes got icy and it was safer to use the pivot (ATC style). Companion belay device to gigajul for thicker ropes?
As you only need a backup device, I wouldn't get a grigri or pinch. They can also be a bit fussy with stiff big ropes. Honestly, the edelrid jul2 has been the smoothest experience for me so far on thick ropes.
