Looking for a carabiner for Mega Jul 2 and GriGri, can I have some help? Also, I have a couple inquiries about belay devices.
Edelrid Bruce for the mega jul 2, any small offset D for the Grigri. You do not want to use an HMS. Petzl suggests the sm'd

Assisted belay device
Edelrid's Jul family is The Way. Jul 2 is single strand, and shares geometry with the dual strand Mega Jul. These tend to give the best lockup with most ropes, but it depends a lot on the carabiner, too. Skinnier biner stock tends to lock up tighter, but I get good results with an Edelrid Bulletproo

Gyms Worldwide Increasingly Ban Tube-Style Belay Devices in Favor of ABDs
I also don't know of any ABDs which can feed 2 strands, would be sincerely curious if you could name any. The Edelrid mega jul and giga jul do everything a regular tube does, and they're also assisted.

Black Diamond ATC Pilot or Gri Gri for a beginner?
i agree in principle but with a few caveats. in recent years the grigri has become sort of the defacto standard in a lot of places, and you may find that potential partners are more comfortable being belayed on grigri, especially by a newer belayer. many gyms require it. on a personal note i wouldnt

Weekly Question Thread (aka Friday New Climber Thread). ALL QUESTIONS GO HERE
I generally carry two devices. I wish to carry one for those few trips where every gram counts. By the way, I was messing around with my Mega Jul today and found a different configuration for top belay. Edelrid does not approve...LOL! Bodyweight tests confirmed that it holds load even when the user

Anybody using Beal Birdie for lead climbing? What’s your thoughts?
I think a lot of dislike for the grigri from people who originally learned to lead belay on an ATC comes from just not having enough practice with it to belay smoothly. I was a grigri hater for years (used an edelrid jul 2 as my ABD for a long time) and have switched to the grigri as of a couple yea

Does grigri ever go on sale?
epictv.com (they have a US site) has them under $70. Shipping is pretty steep since they ship from EU, but they have a free shipping tier at $100 or so. I just bought two Pinches for me and a friend. As for whether it's worth it, I think anything is an upgrade from a basic ATC. There are several oth

Heavier belayer soft catch: Quickdraw w/pulley carabiner at first piece?
Thanks yougottadance. Not sure what you mean about being unable to manage the brake strand. I may have unnecessarily overcomplicated my post by bringing up my dream of an assisted brake device that still allows some slip. I recently bought the Mega Jul2, which also has an assisted braking function.
