What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I like the DMM Pivot. Belay, rappel, belay from the top all in one device and the pivot function makes lowering very easy from the top if necessary. Edit: Down-votes for answering the question in the post title? Oh, Reddit, how I love thee.

Which belay device to pick

If you ever plan on climbing trad, then yes. We use half ropes by default, so the only options you really have for assisted braking in that case is the mega/giga jul. I haven't personally used the giga jul, but I do know a couple of people who love it. A double rope device also allows for abseiling

Is there any meaningful difference between different brands' belay plates?

I have the DMM pivot because it's supposed to be a bit easier to lower from a top belay. Have I ever actually needed that feature? No.

I would much prefer to use the Pivot for belaying on multi pitches where someone is at their limit, I am on a ha

What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I have the DMM Pivot and Edlrid Pinch as my one, two combo. I don’t do any climbing on double ropes and am not a huge fan of belaying from above on an ATC. I would sooner belay a follower off a Munter than use a guid mode device if I was at all concerned about lowering the second and don’t have a Gr

First Belaying Device

I recommend getting 1 guide tube and 1 ABD, try a variety of belay devices if possible and buy the one you feel most comfortable with. I currently use the DMM Pivot and Edelrid Pinch. A tuber can be used for belaying in guide mode and be used in rappels while ABDs are more common in single pitch spo

What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I haven't seen anyone really talk about it, but for me the perfect belay device that's on the market currently depends on the type of climbing you are doing. Sport: Edelrid Pinch the direct attachment to the harness is a game changer. I haven't used my GriGri in over a year unless I have to, and hat
