Uk trad climbing rack

Dragons are amazing, more nuts but you’ve already got them coming. 100% need the guide version of the belay plate, I’ve got a dmm pivot and it’s just amazing, especially for your half rope setups when the time comes. If you ever try some “escaping the system” drills you’ll find out why it’s so much

What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I like the DMM Pivot. Belay, rappel, belay from the top all in one device and the pivot function makes lowering very easy from the top if necessary. Edit: Down-votes for answering the question in the post title? Oh, Reddit, how I love thee.

Using a micro traxion for belaying a follower

Ah. I just noticed your other comment that you're only 15 years old. I get it -- your education so far has been pretty limited. Let's bring you up to speed on a few things: • Yes, you absolutely can pull/help your climber up while belaying on a Munter Hitch, or any other device. Redirect your climbe

Rope length

For glacier travel you'll need a rope that the individual fibers are treated for water resistance and not only the sheet. Wet ropes that freezes are dangerous. In Beal terms you are looking for the Golden Dry (not the Dry Cover). For Edelrid, you'll need the Pro Dry. Both of your choices are on the

Which belay device to pick

If you ever plan on climbing trad, then yes. We use half ropes by default, so the only options you really have for assisted braking in that case is the mega/giga jul. I haven't personally used the giga jul, but I do know a couple of people who love it. A double rope device also allows for abseiling

Is there any meaningful difference between different brands' belay plates?

I have the DMM pivot because it's supposed to be a bit easier to lower from a top belay. Have I ever actually needed that feature? No.

Gyms Worldwide Increasingly Ban Tube-Style Belay Devices in Favor of ABDs

It's one of several useful tools also including a DMM Pivot and an Edelrid Megajul which I choose depending on the activity. Belaying safety is a lot more complex than ABD good, tube bad. I would much prefer to use the Pivot for belaying on multi pitches where someone is at their limit, I am on a ha

What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I have the DMM Pivot and Edlrid Pinch as my one, two combo. I don’t do any climbing on double ropes and am not a huge fan of belaying from above on an ATC. I would sooner belay a follower off a Munter than use a guid mode device if I was at all concerned about lowering the second and don’t have a Gr

Missed out buying the limited REI pink grigri ☹️ any chance anyone has one for sale?

My first experience being the one belaying from the top was with my GriGri actually. The people I was with told me it was not so safe and the rope could slip back. And It did. The next two pitches I used it and all the pitches I had it with me also have a ledge where you cannot see the climber. (Als
