Good laptop for solidworks under $1k USD
Dell Precision 7770. Came out in 2022. Easy to upgrade RAM (max 128gb) and additional M.2 drive. Comes with NVIDA RTX. Will easily carry you another 5-6 years, or 8-10 if you hang on to old OSes

Laptop vs desktop for fea?
High single core speed intel laptop CPU should be fine, dell still sells precision 7770/7780 last time I checked. It can come with 128GB ram in a proprietary form factor, I think this makes a difference to speed. Haven't noticed any thermal throttling & i get close to the cpubenchmark result. We hav
