if this is something you are really concerned about, you can pick up some super cheap travel routers and do all the vpn stuff there. the bonus being that it ends up being completely transparent then to all the other devices, they just connect normally. the GL-MT3000 Beryl AX is the super easy one to

Just to add another perspective, I now run 2 devices running independent WireGuard servers at the ‘home’ location, ( a Brume 2 and a Beryl AX) and travel with a Beryl AX and a Cudy TR3000, with access to a number of client admin files for both. As long as may USB tethering/USB WAN support yung router(which I think majority of travel routers support), it'll work naman. I'm currently using a Cudy TR3000 na stock and not customized to openwrt, plug and play lang sya. Pretty sure a lot of GL-iNet travel routers work well din but di ko pa natry

I think there's only 4 decent options (in that order): GL.iNET MT-3000 Cudy TR3000 CF-WR632AX (taken from fr0llic) OpenWrt One (not exactly portable though) The first two do not come with mainline OpenWrt but both Cudy and GL.iNET make installing OpenWrt very easy. 12V has been deprecated in USB-PD
