How to get out of screens that force you to use another controller?
I roll with the Crkd Nitro Deck and come across the same stupid problem! I have to hard reset with the power button, no other option will get me out of that screen. Is IS a bad design, you should have the option to back out.

any mod that allows joycons to be used connected while docked?
UPDATE #2: I received my Nitro Deck + with HMDI dongle today and it works exactly as I expected: the Switch is docked into the ND+, Pro Controllers is enabled in settings, a USB C cable is connected to the input on the Nitro Deck + and either the USB C to HDMI dongle OR a USB C to HDMI cable connect

Price for a pretty rough Switch
I’ve bought a couple used docks on eBay before w no cords, and still paid around $35 for them. If you have a screen protector installed on the tablet so it’s not scratched up for the buyer, I’d think at least $60 for it. Someone that wants it to play handheld could pop the tablet in a CRKD nitro dec

Both. I originally got a Lite during Covid and so it was 100% handheld. This year, with aging eyes, I bought an OLED SWITCH + a GC-coloured CRKD nitro deck. Brilliant move for handheld use and the ability to see small text on a bigger screen. As I enjoy NSO+Exp Pak, I bought all the controllers, so
