Is it alright as an immune-compromised instructor to ask sick students not to come up to my desk?
It’s a bummer to hear that the sick students aren’t just proactively choosing to be considerate since by and large, my students are super considerate about that kind of thing. I am also immunocompromised (I’m on immunosuppressants), and I tell my students this on the first day of class. It really se

How big of a room can coway airmega 150 handle?
Please read the stickied thread about air purifiers and dust before you buy anything so that you have realistic expectations. You need to actually measure your spaces. 600 cubic feet is very small, so I’d confirm that is actually the volume of the room. That 1035 sqft number from Coway is only one a

Best air purifier money can buy?
See the AutoModerator comment. Air purifiers aren't good at reducing visible dust or pet hair as both are large and heavy compared to "invisible" pollutants like PM2.5. See the sticky post at the top of the subreddit and our other subreddit resources on dust: I need an air purifier for dust. What sh

Virus prevention - air purifiers
I’m immunocompromised and always have an air purifier (Coway AirMega 150) running next to my lectern. It’s nearly silent on the lowest setting. I also have a larger one at home (250?) that is EXTREMELY loud, so I wouldn’t recommend a big one. The building I teach in is pretty modern, so I have to as

What air purifiers are good
A few things. Blueair purifiers use an always-on ionizer. This charges the mechanical filter to enhance particulates capture. It is possible for the ionizer to change your gaseous air chemistry. Whether or not it's causing a stuffy nose is hard to say. Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) are an importa

Best Air Purifier for medically fragile kid with lung issues. Concerns Wildfire smoke, wood burning stove, pet dander, mold
With a 150 ft^3 bedroom, you need a CADR of 100 to get the recommeded 5 air changes per hour (assuming 8' ceilings). You could put something like a Coway AirMega ProX in the bedroom. On silent mode, I measured it at a CADR of 170, and there's nothing wrong with overkill. And it's probably quieter th

Philips 3200 VS Winix 5500-2
Thanks, I am just learning about purifiers. It is also very important for me to be quiet unit in sleep mode. I have just read that Winix Zero S can use the same filters than 5500-2 and it is quieter. But I am also considering the Coway Airmega 150, which it seems to be even quieter and looks beautif

Prime Day - Coway AirMega vs Winix 5500 vs Levoit Vital 200s
Per the AHAM 2/3 rule, you need a bare minimum of 367 CFM Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs). But CADRs should be even higher if you're close to roadway traffic. Only one of these purifiers would not be enough. In other words, you would need 3 Coway Airmega 150 units or 2 Levoit Vital 200S units or 2

Need Help Purchasing an Air Purifier for a 12x10 Bedroom
To start, apply the AHAM 2/3 rule described in the AutoMod comment. Since your ceilings are slightly higher, we have to calculate by room volume to get a "readjusted" coverage rating. 1,040.4 cu. ft. ÷ 8 ft. = 130.05 sq. ft. 130.05 sq. ft. ÷ 1.5 = 86.7. Round up to get bare minimum CADRs of 87 CFM.

Room air purifiers
Noise is an important aspect to consider. A noisy filter will likely never be on. It's not just about sound level. It's about how annoying/soothing the sound your filter produces is. On this aspect I l like Coway's airmega 150 and 240. It's also easy to find replacement filters for these models.
