Is the EF-M system actually dead?

What’s the definition of dead? Canon stopped making lenses - yeah then it’s dead. However I think the quality of the sensors is still good enough for 2026 and they are so incredibly portable. The little EF-M lenses are pretty good. I bought my M100 with the plan to adapt EF lenses but it’s so much n

New to photography

Hey. Welcome! I'd suggest to learn the basics, and then see what attracts your attention. That will change which lenses you need. I took some courses and then went with what I enjoy. Also, the M50 is capable of producing gorgeous pictures, but it will require interesting light for that. It is a very

I have R6 Mark II. Help me decide between R10 and R7 as an everyday camera.

Neither are compact. If you're serious about shedding size, New R50V is tiny. I found original R50 too wide. Canon M50 or even small M6 are what you're really asking for. M mount has the coveted 22m f/2. They fit in my coat pocket

Taking a backpacking trip and wanted to bring a camera. Saw these at the secondhand shop. Which one would you recommend?

See if you can get a hold of a canon M50, R50 or V1 These are entry level that can achieve a pretty mind blowing level of quality. And the kit lenses are solid on these.

What should be my next purchase?

Keep the M50. For photography you won’t get a lot, if any, benefit from upgrading to an R50. Plus you won’t be able to use your M mount lenses with an R camera. I love the M system and have way too many lenses for it. I’d suggest the following: Canon 22mm, it’s a must have for any M camera. It’s lik

Is the RF 100-400 worth it over the 70-300 or 75-300

I adore my 100-400! I used the 70-300 on my old m50 when I got started though. I can confidently say the 100-400 is a night and day difference as far as AF speed and sharpness. But the 70-300 was no slouch at all in my experience. I’d figure though, that with the R10 the 100-400 would make you happi

Camera gear you own or owned that was universally loved but you never warmed up to it.

Panasonic m4/3 kit. I don't even remember the model now, but I had it for almost 10 years after switching from a Canon 60D in order to move to lighter weight gear. Those 10 years were my least productive ever, in the year before and after I shot more photos with my Canon than I did in 10 years with

What is your favorite photograph you've taken and why?

B-29 Superfortress 'Doc' directly overhead at EAA AirVenture 2025 Right place, right time, right lens. Canon M50 Mk2 with a Canon FD 100-300 F5.6 L-series (with adapter). If I had a lens that was autofocus, I know it would've picked the branches instead of the airplane.

Is the EF-M system actually dead?

If you own an EF-M camera currently, it's very much alive because you have it. I absolutely loved my dual M50s, and I loved the pictures I took with them. The EF-M 22mm f2 may be the best street photography auto-focus lens ever made. Adapting vintage and EF lenses is trivial. But there are problems:

What should be my next purchase?

I personally changed the canon M50 Mark I on the Canon R.This is a qualitative leap, but I miss the compactness of the Canon M50. It was so light and so small that, while traveling, you could put it in your pocket. However, the Canon R is large enough that it was difficult to fit it anywhere while t
