Dear Onyx, I’m a user, NOT your software tester! – DO NOT update to the 4.2 firmware.

What? Given how expensive these things are, I feel like they should be kind enough NOT to release garbage updates which the community is almost unanimously disappointed with. I loved my Boox Note Max and I wish there was an alternative.

BOOX Firmware V4.2 is here! Community-driven updates and a new thread for feedback.

An update to the Note Max would certainly be welcome! I hope they do release one soon. I do wish they would or could address the ghosting issue. It's the worst of my Boox devices. Not unusable but still it should be fixable.

If you had unlimited money, which would you buy?

Boox fanboys/company employees are a strange bunch. The company is absolutely dodgy shipping untested hardware at launch e.g 5AC and then abandoning it until they release a new iteration the following year. There is no long term support. Boox Note Max a year after launch still has major ghosting and

Thinking about Note Max 13.3, worried about Android 13 end of life

Does BOOX allow you to... This has nothing to do with being allowed. The update must come from BOOX. No one (to my knowledge) is working on custom ROMs for BOOX devices. The Note Max runs Android 13. BOOX has no record of updating Android versions. (They did once for one device, and it was handled v

Boox Tab X C or Note Max refresh soon? Android 13 is EOL.

I'm fed up with the niche suppliers screwing over consumers by not offering upgrades to known issues. Boox and Bigme should not be rewarded with increased sales with their appalling support Personally I really would be in the market for the Tab XC. I love it. I love the Note Max. But the lack of sup

HELP ME CHOOSE!

100% kobo. Its cheaper than the boox and in all honesty I think a better quality product. I had a boox note air 4c and it stopped charging (not a good look for all other product lines.) Kobo is repairable, boox is not. To get a black and white device that costs more than a color device is honestly s

Please Pin the Megathread Post

People say stuff like that here, about being forced to update devices and all, but lots of us are running devices that are long out of the update cycle, while running 4.1 just fine. And that 4.1 is way better than the 3.1 we had at purchase. That's pretty much the opposite of the populist claim. Now

Note Max Ghosting

Yes, it is also terrible on my Note Max. The Boox brand has lost its credibility; no more Boox products for me. Both my Boox devices go up for sale.

I refuse to buy from boox…

I am a Boox Note Max owner and the device is awful. The ghosting issues which we were promised were going to be fixed still haven't - a year after launch. And unlike companies like Supernote they don't support their devices with regular software updates. So the question to ask you is when was your B

I refuse to buy from boox…

I would recommend watching this video by MyDeepGuide. He reviews e-ink devices and has high standards for what a device should be. From my experience with the Boox Note Max, the company is seriously dodgy. The hardware launched broken with major ghosting issues. We were promised fixes and over a yea
