Older [Baratza Encore] still not fine enough after calibration
Also have Baratza Encore, I have never found it to be an acceptable grinder, I have switched to an Eurkia grinder, stepless, much better results. I know some Baratza fans will down vote this, however Baratza Encore was never an espresso grinder. I still use my Baratza for my chemex setup, which work

How much Grinder actually matters?
Just sharing the upgrade path i took. I got a bambino plus, and a non-esp baratza encore, both new. I got rid of the encore, and bought a well-recommended grinder from aliexpress for around 220 usd (starseeker e55 pro). I feel like i can dial in any bean (havent tried any light roast) which gave me

WHAT am I doing wrong??? [Breville Bambino]
Baratza Encore is not suited for espresso. The one with esp suffix is. Which one do you have? Probably a case of grind finer. Try to weigh your beans and espresso. Aim for a 1:2 ratio on 30 seconds. From there you can experiment to taste. Use the razertool for a good dose. Bottomless portafilter is

Should i buy a new grinder? [$200]
K6 requires more arm muscle, but it has much better grind quality than a Baratza. The only reason to buy a $200 electric grinder would be for ease of use. An electric grinder with better grind quality than the K6 will cost much more than $200. If you decide to get the Encore, make sure you get the E

Grinder recommendations [$200]
For grinder: If this is the original Encore, then a hard NO. If it is the ESP version, which is intended for espresso, then it would be a good choice. This would be my first choice. If this is the original Opus, then a hard NO. If it is the Opus 2, then maybe. The version 2 is a new model that fixes

Opus 2 First Impressions
I love my flat burr Ode grinder for pour over. Huge upgrade over my Baratza encore. For espresso I would be eyeing the Niche Zero personally

Starbucks CEO defends $9 coffee says ‘it’s not a $10 coffee and you get a premium experience’
My husband and I put a Cafelat Robot on our wedding gift registry and it's been fantastic. Ended up buying a Niche Zero grinder to complement it though, since our existing Baratza Encore had exactly two settings that were appropriate for grind size (not great for dialing in). I like the Robot better

Flat vs conical burrs research says no one can reliably taste the difference (2013)
I have no doubt that the 3 flat-burr and 3 conical grinders studied indeed are quite excellent. But burrs and small changes in them, from what I have gathered in this subreddit, can be dramatically different and cause dramatic flavor profile differences. And this study is asking that a universe of o

What changed your espresso game the most
The single biggest change was going from a Baratza Encore to a Niche Zero. After that was my change back to a spouted portafilter, soooo much cleaner.

Squirting even on finest grind, previously no issues [Breville Bambino Plus & Baratza Encore]
A regular Baratza Encore grinder isnt for espresso. Even opening it up and setting it to fine wont be enough. Learned that when I got my Gaggia EVO Pro espresso machine. Luckily it came with a piece that let me make fake espresso shots with a pressure basket.
