i am going to go with the ASUS RT-BE58U WiFi 7 BE3600 AiMesh Extendable Router as it can be expanded upon with mesh networking.

Internal antennas can work quite well; don't let that dissuade you too much. I have an ASUS XT8 mesh system (WiFi 6). Router Help
For your setup (3300 sqft, 2-story, gigabit, 40+ devices), I’d look at the ASUS RT-AX58U or the RT-BE58U. The AX58U is a solid Wi-Fi 6 router that handles a lot of devices well and supports AiMesh if you ever want to expand. The BE58U is Wi-Fi 7 and more future-proof but still comes in under $100. B
