For your use case, you don't need to pay extra for a powerful chip like the M1. Besides, if you're worried about it lasting years, the Air 5 is already 4 years old. Try and find a new iPad 11th gen (A16).

If you do have a computer, the iPad is the best option, but if you don’t, then I’d prefer the MacBook, nothing replaces a computer, not even an iPad Pro.
