Investigators wrangled video from Nancy Guthrie’s Google Nest camera out of ‘backend systems’
That’s why you buy the cheap Chinese amcrest and reolinks toss them onto their own VLAN that’s segmented from your network and the open internet. I have 10 4k amcrest cameras and 1 Reolink doorbell camera/chime that all play very nicely with frigate and home assistant

3rd-party Onvif Motion Detection after Update to Protect 7.1.46
i noticed this on my 7.1.46 update too - think they quietly enabled basic onvif motion events. the api changelog mentions event webhooks now work for non unifi cams. you can disable it per camera under recording settings but its buried. if you want full motion zone control the amcrest onvif cams han

ONVIF Motion Based Recording UI now live in latest Protect EA (7.1.55)
awesome, would love to know if the 'no events' is specific to all reolinks or just some models all my amcrests work perfectly (i only have one one reolink i bought to evaluate for 4k indoor PTZ which amcrest doesn't have in the same form factor) i agree ONVIF table stakes features like this will def

Ok fine, I'm biting the bullet. What do I need?
"Assuming I want to buy other brands of cameras AND still want AI object/pet/face/human/car detection, what do I need to accommodate 8-10 cameras (let's say 2x 4K and the rest 2K resdolution)?" Right now AI for 3rd party cams in Protect is limited to using an AI Port. That'll add AI to one 4K cam. I

Protect does motion recording for ONVIF cameras?
on your comment about ONVIF as an example these are message topics that an ONVIF client can subscribe to as an example, ONVIF cameras may do motion or AI on camera, and when they do they send a simple 'true' to the topics as a message - all UI needs to do is be continuously buffering ONVIF cameras i

Indoor Security Cameras?
Get a camera with ONVIF or RTSP (Reolink/Amcrest) and avoid cloud-only ones. Either record locally to an SD card or use a simple setup like a Raspberry Pi with MotionEye/Frigate for full control. Disable cloud access and block internet if possible.

Best POE Camera for HKSV
I have the Amcrest cameras with HKSV, 3 different kinds and all support POE. They've been great, but the browser based admin page to config settings is trash. Other than that, I'm happy with them. ETA: didn't read the bit about color night vision, but seems like they have models that support it as w

Plug and Play camera add options
Yeah I'm not a fan of those cameras or the ones that have the color light in front of the camera. Thankfully you can turn off the spotlight on the settings but I have not found the option to do so for the color LED. So those are color night vision enabled, the spotlight helps provide the color night

Any REAL YouTube reviews of the S4 Max yet?
I ordered and installed them last weekend. I had an Amcrest POE system that this was replacing so install wasn't too bad using my existing cat6 cables. I'm new to Eufy but they are much better overall than my Amcrest 4k setup. The AI stuff isn't super useful to me but the tracking is nice. Overall,
