Exactly. Never ever answer the door for police. Don’t even speak to them through the door or a window. Get a hard wired (not WiFi) doorbell camera that has an intercom feature. If someone knocks, just use your phone to talk to them via the camera’s speaker and microphone. My personal recommendation

No such native options. Best bet would be Reolink POE doorbell going into a NVR for local storage 24/7 plus scrypted for HomeKit integration. It’s what I use. No compatibility with legacy/physical doorbell chimes if that matters to you.

I have poe reolink doorbell Cam, works great. Reolink integrates neatly with home assistant which is a big deal for me. It does come with a mount but not that matches the curves of siding.

As you’re already familiar with Reolink, I’d look at the Reolink PoE doorbell. I’ll wait for my downvotes.

You won't be able to connect a NEST directly to ethernet. It's power over Ethernet.(POE) It doesn't contain the voltage required to power the nest doorbell. ring is corrupt and does not respect your privacy at all. reolink is a 100% Chinese government company, and unifi has zero support while being overpriced... I do alarm.com PoE doorbells and have had great luck with them. just did 50 of them in an apartment complex not too long ago.

Reolink is what you want, although it's frustrating that there are not really that many PoE doorbells worth a damn

What you require (for maximum performance/security) are 2 cameras, possibly 3 even. You want 2 cameras (or more) because the first one will overlook the general scene (close to your home) and you will need another one with optical zoom, because 1/4 mile is a lot to cover. Cat 5/5e/6 can run up to 32
