This. I own a 2012 Kindle and this is how I'll use it from now on. Amazon has just made sure that I won't ever buy a kindle again from them, although I think the device is great, mine works flawlessly still.

Starting in May, pre-2013 Kindles won't be able to buy or download new books
I'm a daily user of a 2012 Kindle. It still works flawlessly and the battery is still strong, it's the best electronic device that I own and I hope that it lasts another decade. Due to Amazon's policy to make it less useful I won't ever purchase another Kindle.

Nice small damn e-reader to read your faves when waiting in line.
I like the look of the tiny eReaders, but I would be so terrified of either losing it, or forgetting I had it in my pocket and I would sit on it. I love my Kindle Basic and my Boox Go 6 eReaders. Shiny kudos to you for creating a good habit over doom scrolling. It really is much more calming to do.

What to use if a student doesn’t like the feel of paper?
For writing they make “waterproof paper” (it’s basically plastic I guess), but it has a very different texture. For reading, snag a used kindle.

Is it worth upgrading from a basic Kindle to a Paperwhite?
I have a Kindle Basic and I’ve messed around with a friend’s paperwhite. Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything that’s super special or worth an upgrade. The light is nice, but I also don’t find the light on the Basic to be bothersome. And personally, I actually prefer the recessed screen for Kind

Yeah, they used to sell kindle basic back in 2023, paperwhite was 10k. This new paperwhite costs 17k lol, and it is the 16Gb one. You definitely don’t have a problem, you have a lovely collection!!! I have kindle basic 2024, Kobo Libra color and XTEINK x4 and I love them all to death!!! (Don’t have a pic of all three yet, unfortunately)
